| (1) |
A highway authority in its respective jurisdiction may, after an engineering and traffic investigation, designate unmarked crosswalk locations where:
Terms Used In Utah Code 41-6a-1010- Crosswalk: means :
| (a) | that part of a roadway at an intersection included within the connections of the lateral lines of the sidewalks on opposite sides of the highway measured from:| (i) | | (B) | in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the traversable roadway; and |
|
| (ii) | in the absence of a sidewalk on one side of the roadway, that part of a roadway included within the extension of the lateral lines of the existing sidewalk at right angles to the centerline; or |
|
| (b) | any portion of a roadway at an intersection or elsewhere distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface. See Utah Code 41-6a-102- Highway: means the entire width between property lines of every way or place of any nature when any part of it is open to the use of the public as a matter of right for vehicular travel. See Utah Code 41-6a-102
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Right-of-way: means the right of one vehicle or pedestrian to proceed in a lawful manner in preference to another vehicle or pedestrian approaching under circumstances of direction, speed, and proximity that give rise to danger of collision unless one grants precedence to the other. See Utah Code 41-6a-102
- Traffic: means pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, and other conveyances either singly or together while using any highway for the purpose of travel. See Utah Code 41-6a-102

| (a) |
pedestrian crossing is prohibited; or |
| (b) |
pedestrians shall yield the right-of-way to vehicles. |
| (2) |
The restrictions in Subsection (1) are effective only when traffic-control devices indicating the restrictions are in place. |
