- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
- Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
- Traffic offense: has the meaning given that term in ORS § 801. See Oregon Statutes 153.005
- United States: includes territories, outlying possessions and the District of Columbia. See Oregon Statutes 174.100
- Violation: means an offense described in ORS § 153. See Oregon Statutes 153.005
