• Acupuncture: means the stimulation of a certain point or points on or near the surface of the body by the insertion of needles to prevent or modify the perception of pain or to normalize physiological functions, including pain control for the treatment of certain diseases or dysfunctions of the body, and includes the techniques of electroacupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion. See California Business and Professions Code 4927
• Acupuncturist: means an individual to whom a license has been issued to practice acupuncture pursuant to this chapter, which is in effect and is not suspended or revoked. See California Business and Professions Code 4927
• Application for stay and early evaluation conference: means an application to be filed with the court that meets the requirements of subdivision (c) of Section 55. See California Civil Code 55.52
• Board: means the Acupuncture Board. See California Business and Professions Code 4927
• CASp: means any person who has been certified pursuant to §. See California Civil Code 55.52
• Certificated employee: means a member, as defined by Section 22146, of the State Teachers' Retirement System. See California Education Code 7004
• City: includes city and county. See California Business and Professions Code 18
• Construction-related accessibility claim: means any civil claim in a civil action with respect to a place of public accommodation, including, but not limited to, a claim brought under Section 51, 54, 54. See California Civil Code 55.52
• Construction-related accessibility standard: means a provision, standard, or regulation under state or federal law requiring compliance with standards for making new construction and existing facilities accessible to persons with disabilities, including, but not limited to, any provision, standard, or regulation set forth in Section 51, 54, 54. See California Civil Code 55.52
• County: includes city and county. See California Food and Agricultural Code 29
• creditor: means the state or the department or agency of the state seeking to collect the liability. See California Code of Civil Procedure 688.040
• Declared homestead: means the dwelling described in a homestead declaration. See California Code of Civil Procedure 704.910
• Declared homestead owner: includes both of the following:

• Disposable earnings: means the portion of an individual's earnings that remains after deducting all amounts required to be withheld by law. See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Dwelling: means a place where a person resides and may include but is not limited to the following:

  California Code of Civil Procedure 704.710

• Dwelling: means any interest in real property (whether present or future, vested or contingent, legal or equitable) that is a "dwelling" as defined in Section 704. See California Code of Civil Procedure 704.910
• Earnings: means compensation payable by an employer to an employee for personal services performed by such employee, whether denominated as wages, salary, commission, bonus, or otherwise. See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Earnings assignment order for support: means an order, made pursuant to Chapter 8 (commencing with Section 5200) of Part 5 of Division 9 of . See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Earnings withholding order for elder or dependent adult financial abuse: means an earnings withholding order, made pursuant to Article 5 (commencing with Section 706. See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Employee: means a public officer and any individual who performs services subject to the right of the employer to control both what shall be done and how it shall be done. See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Employer: means a person for whom an individual performs services as an employee. See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Homestead: means the principal dwelling (1) in which the judgment debtor or the judgment debtor's spouse resided on the date the judgment creditor's lien attached to the dwelling, and (2) in which the judgment debtor or the judgment debtor's spouse resided continuously thereafter until the date of the court determination that the dwelling is a homestead. See California Code of Civil Procedure 704.710
• Homestead declaration: includes both of the following:

• Judgment debtor: includes a person from whom the state is seeking to collect a tax liability under Article 4 (commencing with Section 706. See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Meets applicable standards: means the site was inspected by a CASp and determined to meet all applicable construction-related accessibility standards pursuant to paragraph (1) of subdivision (a) of Section 55. See California Civil Code 55.52
• Month: means a calendar month, unless otherwise expressed. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
• Oath: includes an affirmation or declaration. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
• Person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
• Person: includes an individual, a corporation, a partnership or other unincorporated association, a limited liability company, and a public entity. See California Code of Civil Procedure 706.011
• Person: means any individual, partnership, association, corporation, limited liability company, or any organized group of persons whether incorporated or not. See California Food and Agricultural Code 38
• Person: means any individual, organization, or corporate body, except that only individuals may be licensed under this chapter. See California Business and Professions Code 4927
• personal property: include money, goods, chattels, things in action, and evidences of debt. See California Civil Code 14
• Process: signifies a writ or summons issued in the course of a judicial proceeding. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
• Property: includes both personal and real property. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
• Qualified defendant: means a defendant in an action that includes a construction-related accessibility claim that is asserted against a place of public accommodation that met the requirements of "meets applicable standards" or "inspected by a CASp" prior to the date the defendant was served with the summons and complaint in that action. See California Civil Code 55.52
• School district: means that district from which the member of the State Teachers' Retirement System last made contributions to the system before retirement. See California Education Code 7004
• Site: means a place of public accommodation. See California Civil Code 55.52
• spouse: includes a registered domestic partner, as required by §. See California Civil Code 14
• Spouse: includes "registered domestic partner" as required by §. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
• Spouse: means a "spouse" as defined in Section 704. See California Code of Civil Procedure 704.910
• Spouse: means a spouse as defined by Section 22171. See California Education Code 7004
• State: includes the District of Columbia and the territories when applied to the different parts of the United States, and the words "United States" may include the district and territories. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
• Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which that term occurs unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Food and Agricultural Code 49
• visually impaired: includes blindness and means having central visual acuity not to exceed 20/200 in the better eye, with corrected lenses, as measured by the Snellen test, or visual acuity greater than 20/200, but with a limitation in the field of vision such that the widest diameter of the visual field subtends an angle not greater than 20 degrees. See California Civil Code 54.6
