  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

The law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over a county or municipality conducting a school zone speed detection system program authorized by s. 316.008(9) must use funds generated pursuant to s. 316.1896(5)(e) from the school zone speed detection system program to administer the School Crossing Guard Recruitment and Retention Program. Such program may provide recruitment and retention stipends to crossing guards at K-12 public schools, including charter schools, or stipends to third parties for the recruitment of new crossing guards. The School Crossing Guard Recruitment and Retention Program must be designed and managed at the discretion of the law enforcement agency.
