Terms Used In Indiana Code > Title 20 > Article 34 - Student Health and Safety Measures

  • accredited nonpublic school: means a nonpublic school that:

  • Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • applicable student: means a student who competes in an athletic activity. See Indiana Code 20-34-8-0.5
  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • association: means an organization that conducts, organizes, sanctions, or sponsors interscholastic athletic events as the organization's primary purpose. See Indiana Code 20-34-8-1
  • association: has the meaning set forth in IC 20-26-14-1. See Indiana Code 20-34-7-1
  • athletic activity: includes the following:

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • diabetes management and treatment plan: means a plan prepared under section 12 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 20-34-5-1
  • emergency medication: means any of the following:

  • emergency stock medication: means emergency medication to which both of the following apply:

  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • health care services: has the meaning set forth in IC 27-8-11-1. See Indiana Code 20-34-5-2
  • in writing: include printing, lithographing, or other mode of representing words and letters. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • individualized health plan: means a coordinated plan of care designed to meet the unique health care needs of a student with diabetes in a school setting. See Indiana Code 20-34-5-3
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • licensed health care practitioner: means an individual who:

  • minor: means a person less than eighteen (18) years of age. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • organizing entity: means any person that:

  • plan: refers to a student and parent support services plan described in section 6(2) of this chapter. See Indiana Code 20-34-9-2
  • program: refers to the student and parent support services grant program established by section 5 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 20-34-9-3
  • Property: includes personal and real property. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • registered nurse: refers to an individual who is licensed as a registered nurse under IC 25-23. See Indiana Code 20-34-5-6
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • school: refers to a public school, including a charter school. See Indiana Code 20-34-5-7
  • school: refers to a public school and a state accredited nonpublic school. See Indiana Code 20-34-7-1.6
  • school: refers to a public school and a state accredited nonpublic school. See Indiana Code 20-34-8-3
  • school: means a:

  • school employee: means an individual employed by:

  • state agency: means an authority, board, branch, commission, committee, department, division, or other instrumentality of the executive, including the administrative, department of state government. See Indiana Code 4-13-1-1
  • student: refers to a student with diabetes. See Indiana Code 20-34-5-10
  • student athlete: means any student who:

  • Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
  • United States: includes the District of Columbia and the commonwealths, possessions, states in free association with the United States, and the territories. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
  • venue specific emergency action plan for sudden cardiac arrest: means a plan developed by a school corporation, charter school, or state accredited nonpublic school that:
