Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 8-2108

  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

In the event the form of citation provided for in Kan. Stat. Ann. § 8-2106, and amendments thereto, includes information required by law and is signed by the officer preparing it, such citation when filed with a court having jurisdiction shall be deemed to be a lawful complaint for the purpose of prosecution for the violation specified.
