  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.

Books of a religious nature may be used in the classroom as part of instruction in elective courses in literature and history, as long as such books are not used in a manner so as to violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
